Question: Is it possible that some parts of The Old Testament have been mistranslated or misinterpreted over time?
That is a concern for all serious students of the Holy Bible!
In our case; we trust the Holy Spirit sent by Jesus when He ascended, to continually monitor all matters affecting the Bible; until the return of Christ Jesus; especially as one of His Names is “the Spirit of Truth”!
As an adjunct of that fact; when we were at a critical stage of study; we found we could not get clear answers from the controllers in our circle of activities; and after sincere prayer, and a wait of 7 years, we were given the source that we required, in the “Companion Bible”; which is in print all over the World!
The point that you make in your question is covered by the fact that one of the Scholars was a Jewish Rabbi; who had converted to Christ Jesus; but was already known for his scholarship in the Old Testament (Tanankh); http://www.revelationsmessage.co.uk/Christian%20David%20Ginsburg.htm
The second Scholar was Dr. E.W. Bullinger; Dr. E. W. Bullinger (Hebrew and Greek Scholar); and both these men worked together to produce the Companion Bible, with wide margin and notes on the 1611 KJV; this document has been the most enlightened study re. most of our questions!
